Year: 2025

That’s a wrap for 2025

What an incredible year it has been for all the children in Room 23. We’ve been on so many trips, participated in activities like Sports Days etc and so many other amazing things. We’ve reflected on how our year was and all the things we are proud of and have achieved. Here’s a snippet of our Year 6 graduation evening performance and montage. Please leave us a comment!

Celebration of Learning 2025

Every term we have an “End of Term” sharing of learning. This term each class had to learn and present a dance item. Room 23 brainstormed and shared ideas. In the end we went with this song here called “Buga”

“Buga” by Kizz Daniel means unapologetically celebrate hard work. It is a popular Yoruba (West African) slang encouraging pride in accomplishments. Kizz Daniel (artist) explains it’s about letting your results speak for itself, not being ashamed of success after diligent work, and enjoying life’s rewards. Room 23 have worked extremely hard this year and we are so proud of our achievements. Watch our movie below and please leave us a comment.

Fijian Language Week 2025

This year we got to celebrate Fijian Language Week during the school term.

Macawa ni Vosa vakaViti – Fijian Language Week

Celebrate: 5 – 11 October 2025

The 2025 theme for Fijian Language Week is ‘Na noqu vosa me na tekivu mai vale – My language starts at home’.

Please find here our items from the Junior and Senior Pasifika groups. Leave us a comment. Vinaka vaka levu.

Te wiki o te reo Māori 2025

This week our school celebrated Te wiki o te reo Māori. It’s a special year being the 50th year of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) in Aotearoa. You can click here to find out more. Here are some videos of the Senior Kapa Haka performance during our closing assembly. You’ll see our class present the story of Maui and the Sun. Our class won the art challenge for the Rangi team and Leone won the writing competition. You can see his writing here. Special mention to Rachael and her whanau for sharing their precious taonga with us: pūtātara and pūkāea. Kia kaha te reo Māori. Ake ake ake.

Duffy Role Model Assembly 2025

This term we had Taofi Mose Nehemia come and speak to us about reading. Taofi is a Samoan New Zealand based actor and dancer. During the assembly, she taught us a few Samoan words that we usually hear in a sāsā like nofo and we all had to sit up. It was lots of fun! After her introduction, Taofi told us the story of Sina and her brothers. She acted it out and used lots of humour to tell the story. We thoroughly enjoyed it! Check out the videos here of Taofi’s visit to Weymouth Primary School. We hope to see her again soon.

Cultural Festival 2025

Our cluster of schools (Clayton Park School, Waimahia Intermediate School, James Cook High School and our school), all had cultural groups perform for the first ever Extravaganza. It was held at Clayton Park School with two stages (inside and outside) with performances that ranged from Kapa Haka, Fijian, Tongan, Samoan, Filipino, Indian and Bollywood dances. The day started with a whakatauki to welcome everyone. Lots of our whanau came to support. Our whole school went on buses to support all our performing groups. Check out some of the performances from the day.

Tongan Language Week 2025

Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e lea faka-Tonga – Tonga Language Week

Celebrate: 17 – 23 August 2025

The 2025 theme for Tonga Language Week is ‘Ko ‘etau lea, ko e fe’unu mahu’inga ia ki he mo’ui ‘a e Tonga – Our language is a vital strand of our Tongan culture.’

This week has been a week of celebrating Tongan Language Week at our school. We had challenges to complete on our TLW school site here. The challenges were lots of fun! We were very lucky to have Jason Afu come and perform for us too.

Check out some of the other performances from our closing assembly on Friday. Shout out to the Tongan Language Week team who organised everything for us and for our families.

Cook Island Language Week 2025

‘Epetoma o te reo Māori Kūki ‘Airani – Cook Islands Māori Language Week

Celebrate: 3 – 9 August 2025

The 2025 theme for Cook Islands Māori Language Week is ‘Ātui’tui’ia au ki te raurau a tōku matakeinanga – “Connect me to the offerings of my people’.

It was an amazing week of celebration for Cook Island Language Week. Our Opening Assembly was on Monday and our Junior Pasifika performed. We also found out what the challenges were.

Room 23 entered the Vaka design challenge, Ura dance and the Tivaevae challenge. Our class won the tivaevae. Each child was given a piece of hessian and sewed the design of a flower or leaf. We created this in two days and worked under pressure because all challenge entries were due by Wednesday 3pm and all Year 6s were at Waimahia Intermediate for their Open Day. Here is our winning tivaevae:

Here’s our Senior Pasifika group performing. See if you can spot the children from Room 23.
